My favorite team, and the one that brought the world Cal Ripken Jr.
I became a fan of the Baltimore Orioles after going to more games than I could count at Camden Yards. I can't say I'm a fan of the New York sports scene, so I've never had the opportunity to root "the home team". However, seeing as I've probably been to more Orioles games than Mets and Yankees games combined, the Baltimore Orioles may as well have been my local team. When you combined that rare set of circumstances with the fact that had my favorite player of all-time, Cal Ripken Jr., on their roster, it made perfect sense for me to join the ranks of the Orioles faithful.
Over a decade later, all the reasons I started following the Orioles have pretty much become moot. Cal is retired, I rarely make it down to Camden Yards, and the team has been downright dreadful. Yet for better or worse, or perhaps out of apathy, as the whole steroid issue has really soured me on baseball, I'm sticking with the Orioles. I figure that if Cal was tough enough to stick it out for 2,632 straight games, I am as well. To the right you'll find the archives of my articles covering the Baltimore Orioles. As you can probably tell, I'm not as dedicated a baseball fan as I am with the NFL and NBA, but hopefully you'll still enjoy this look back at Orioles history.
