DeROK.Net Entertainment - Television, Movies, Music
It seems to me that many people like to throw stones at the entertainment industry for being "all about the money" or "corrupting our youth". While there's certainly some truth to those accusations, I think that people often forget to see the "good" that television, movies, and music bring to our lives and the positive ways that they can shape our culture. We have these ingrained ideas that authors like William Shakespeare are "worthwhile" and spending an hour watching "24" is a "waste of time". However, when you really think about it, the plays that Shakespeare put on were the equivalent of television in his day. A quality show like "Lost" offers every bit as much drama and theatrics as anything William ever wrote, so why does the fact that its on a screen instead of live in a theatre make it any less "valuable"? Why does the fact that it's centuries old make something Beethoven wrote any better than U2's latest album?
Never before in the history of the world have human beings been so privileged to experiece such a wealth of music and theatrics, and instead of reprimanding people for "killing time", we should see the entertainment world as the great culture treasure that it is. Of course, everything I just said goes out the window if you're going to spend all day watching "The Bachelor" and "Paradise Hotel", while listening to "Amy Winehouse" and "Britney Spears", but you can rest assured you'll find absolutely none of that in this section of my website. Nope, DeROK.Net Entertainment is dedicated to only the best of the best in Television, Movies, and Music, and thankfully, there's quite a bit of material to draw from.
