Episode 1 Elimination: Sekou

One of my favorite things to do during the first episode of Survivor is to guess which castaway will walk away with the million dollars.  It's not so easy when you consider that the person who wins can't be too big of a threat, but also can't be too awful either.  Then you also have to factor in things such as intelligence, alliance potential, and how good their tribe is.  And when you consider that , this season, the number of cast member is up to 20 Survivors, and there's major racial issues coming into play, selecting the winner correctly has never been more difficult.

I can usually make my choice fairly easily.  There's always one person who seems to be that solid bet. Not so this season.  In addition to decreasing everyone's camera time due to the swollen cast, everyone just seemed to be waving a red flag, giving me reasons not to pick them.  Here's my take on the tribes and their members.

Manihiki: There was no one here giving me any reason to make them my pick.  And believe me, it's not cause they're black.  I love black people.  See Kevin Garnett if you don't. It's just that none of them seemed to know what they're doing at all, which was evidenced by their immunity defeat and the elimination of Sekou.

Puka Puka: I really liked Cao Boi's chances... Ok, that's a lie.  Basically, I don't know if any of the guys in this tribe have the brains to pull it off.  See, Survivor is already breaking down the stereotypes that all Asian people are smart. (Although maybe that's not good since it's a positive stereotype) Picking one of the girls was tempting since they seemed to have their heads on straight. However, they had next to no camera time, so I would have been making a blind guess seeing as I couldn't get a good read on them.

Rarotonga: I was really thinking of going with Candice, until she started flirting with Adam.  Those things never end well for the couples, unless you happen to be a Survivor mastermind like Boston Rob.  And believe me, Adam is no mastermind.  Jonathan, while also solid, just seemed a little to quirky for his own good.

Aitutaki: Seeing as I'm now an official adopted Chilean, I have no problem abandoning the Aryan Nation and rooting for the Latinos. Besides, now that I've hooked my girlfriend's family on the show, it's a lot of fun to break out in soccer chants during immunity challenges. Si se puede! Si se puede! My top two choices were JP and Ozzie, and seeing as JP will most likely have a big target on his back, I'm making Ozzie my official pick for Survivor: Cook Islands.

So there you have it.  I'm putting my 4 out of 11 for picking the winner and 6 out of 11 for picking a final two member records on the line by going with a mop-haired waiter.  I can't say I'm overly sold on the pick, especially since next week's preview showed that Ozzie was already considering throwing a challenge in order to get Billy voted off.  But it's the best guess I can make with the limited exposure I was given.  The only plus, if you can call it that, is that he reminds me of last season's winner Aras, except without the whiny girly quailties.

Alright, I've got to wrap this up now.  So much for keeing it short...
