The "other" baseball team from New York is a diamond in the rough.

New York Mets

I have never been a fan of New York sports.  I don't know if it's the constant complaining and overblown expectations of the WFAN callers that initially turned me off, or the revolving door of players who are continually chewed up and spit out, but rooting for a New York team never really struck me as something that would be "fun".  To me, it was all hype with very little payoff.  Well, unless you happened to be a Yankees fan, which meant you sold your soul.  (I never really found that to be a good trade off.)  However, there was one team from the Big Apple that did manage to finally find a place in my good graces, the New York Mets.

Don't get me wrong, the Mets still exude a lot of what I don't like about New York sports.  However, I've managed to get past all of that because of the wonderful position that the Mets hold in the baseball world. Thanks to geography, they're natural rivals with the Yankees. That's a huge selling point for me.  Yet unlike the Yankees/Red Sox feud, you don't get the feeling that you're rooting for the lesser of two evils by supporting the Mets. The Amazin's are constantly overshadowed by the Yankees, which makes them out to be perrenial underdogs no matter how well they perform.  It's always fun to root for the guy who's a bit down on his luck and watch him try to overcome the odds.  That's the type of experience you get every season with the New York Mets.  It's because of this enjoyable underdog feel that I decided to add the Mets onto the list of teams that I try to keep up with.  While my coverage of the team certainly isn't as in-depth as what you'd expect from a die-hard fan, I hope you still enjoy the articles I write as I cover this team's quest to take over the throne as New York's premiere baseball team!

By the way, if that does ever happen, will I have to start rooting for the Yankees?  Nah!
