In terms of overall success, The Anti-David Cook Campaign will go down in history somewhere between the War in Iraq and Wile E. Coyote. Despite my rather lengthy argument against him taking the show's top honor, David Cook managed to outlast David Archuletta's flock of fan girls and win American Idol Season 7. After all the time and energy I spent campaigning against Mr. Cook, you would probably guess that the final decision made my stomach turn, but, surprisingly, that was not the case at all. Any of you who were following along with my Anti-David Cook posts probably noticed a major drop off following the "Idol Gives Back" week in which he pulled off the lame gimmick of writing "Give Back" on his hand. Actually, since that week, I haven't written a single negative thing about David Cook. The reason for my lack of posts is a combination of my being very busy and the fact that after being called "smug", "arrogant", and "pompus" by Simon, David Cook finally got the hint and, for the most part, quit his whole attention-grabbing act. I don't know if it was a boost of self-confidence from his amazing performance of "You'll Always be my Baby" or perhaps a little perspective from his brother's battle with cancer, but suddenly David Cook stopped being that self-indulgent poser I had come to detest and turned into somewhat of a tolerable human being. By the time the finale rolled around, I had come to the conclusion that America would be better off crowning somebody who actually has a shot at creating decent music, vs. giving Archuletta the title and watching him eventually turn into a teenage man-whore like Zac Effron. So after all my Anti-David Cook campaigning, I was actually glad to see him take home the title.Don't get me wrong, I'll always believe Michael Johns was the most deserving contestant of the season, and I would have appreciated it if David Cook could've tried to not look like a homeless person on the night he was named the winner, but that's all water under the bridge.I'm man enough to admit when I've been beat, and campaign or no campaign there was just no stopping David Cook...
